OUR SERVICES

General Ophthalmology Exams

Routine general ophthalmology care includes the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of vision problems and eye diseases. At Rivertown Ophthalmology, our doctors will assess your vision using an eye chart and refraction testing. Your pupils may also be dilated to determine if any diseases of the eye are present. These exams can help detect vision and eye health problems, that if left untreated may cause blindness. It is important to schedule a routine eye exam yearly, or as often as your provider recommends.

Dry Eye

Dry eye disease is a common condition that occurs when your tears aren’t able to provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. There are multiple treatment options for dry eye such as artificial tears and gels, punctal occlusion with punctal plugs, Restasis® eye drops and fish oil supplements. Our doctors can help determine which treatment is right for you.

Macular Degeneration

This condition causes vision loss in the center of one’s field of vision due to the deterioration of a part of the retina called the macula. It is a leading cause of vision loss in Americans 60 and older. Regular comprehensive eye exams can detect macular degeneration before the disease causes vision loss. Although there is no cure, treatment can help prevent or delay the deterioration of vision.

Eye Infections

In addition to general eye care, we also offer treatment for eye infections. Common infections include Blepharitis and Conjunctivitis which can be caused by viruses or bacteria. These infections are often treated with topical eye drops and occasionally require oral prescription medication.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetes can lead to a complication in your eyes known as diabetic retinopathy. This damages the retinal blood vessels and can cause blindness. While not a cure, regular eye exams and treatments can help prevent vision loss caused by advanced diabetic eye disease.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease that damages the optic nerve and causes vision loss. Being one of the leading causes of blindness, we offer state-of-the-art testing and treatment plans for glaucoma. Reach out to our office for more information on diagnoses and treatment plans.

Contact Lenses

You can take your contact lens prescription and purchase your lenses wherever you choose. Or, you can buy them directly from Rivertown Opthalmology at your convenience!

Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery involves removing the natural lens in the eye that has become cloudy and replacing it with an artificial lens (known as an intraocular lens or IOL). Modern cataract surgery is safe and typically quick and painless. Surgery using a standard monofocal IOL is covered by medical insurance (subject to copay and deductible).
Through thousands of surgeries, Dr. Donas, has vast experience in refractive cataract surgery. In addition to standard lenses, we also offer premium lenses with options for multi-focal and astigmatism correction. It’s important to discuss your IOL options with your surgeon prior to surgery to ensure you receive the IOL most suited to your needs.

Premium Intraocular Lenses

At Rivertown Ophthalmology we offer our cataract patients the choice to upgrade from standard lenses to a variety of premium lenses. Opting for a Premium IOL can improve vision and reduce your dependence on glasses after surgery.
The Acrysof® IQ Toric IOL is a monofocal lens specifically designed for people with astigmatism. This lens offers much-improved distance vision.
The Acrysof® IQ Vivity™ is a non-diffractive lens that provides an extended range of vision.
The Acrysof® IQ PanOptix® is a Trifocal lens that provides enhanced vision for clear, complete focus without blurry zones. Colors will appear more vivid and bright.
If you are a candidate for a Premium IOL, Dr. Donas can help you determine which lens is ideal for you.
Unlike standard monofocal IOLs, Premium IOLs are considered elective and are not covered by medical insurance. We offer financing options through CareCredit.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

Fabulous Doctor

I enjoy seeing Dr. Donas every year. It feels like a visit with family. Fabulous doctor, great personality, and so kind. The staff is wonderful. Very lucky he practices in Westchester. As they say, the pick of the litter!

“Highly recommended!”

Excellent doctors, excellent practice. They specialize in getting your prescription right, not trying to sell you frames or lenses. You’ll have to go elsewhere for that, but that’s the approach I prefer anyway. Highly recommended!
